WANT TO LEARN MORE ABOUT FORENSIC PSYCHOLOGY?
Many students are interested in forensic psychology but aren’t quite sure what “forensic psychology” really means, what is needed to become a forensic psychologist, or what a forensic psychologist does on a day-to-day basis. There are several ways to learn more:
Professional Societies
The American Psychology-Law Society Student Committee website has many great resources for students interested in the field.
Connecting with Professionals in the Field
Another important thing to do is to talk to professionals in the field in which you are interested. If you are interested in becoming a forensic psychologist, contact one to learn more about the field and the job! I am happy to talk with interested students and can allow particularly interested students shadowing opportunities. If you want to contact a Board Certified Forensic Psychologist outside of Iowa, the American Board of Forensic Psychology website has a searchable list of professionals by specialty and state.
Request a Forensic Psychologist to Speak at your School
I enjoy talking to students interested in forensic psychology! I have given many talks to students ranging from middle school to graduate school and students involved in a variety of programs, including psychology, medicine, and law. Consider talking to a faculty member or a student group about hosting a speaker on the topic of forensic psychology!
What if you are a Professional in Another Field?
I have provided trainings for a variety of professional groups, for example, mental health providers, attorneys, law enforcement, and individuals working directly with forensic and criminal populations. Topics have ranged from working with sexual offenders, basics of psychological testing, assessment of special populations of offenders, and the presentation and treatment of psychological disorders. Contact me to discuss a specialized training, talk, or workshop.
